2024 Annual Report: A Year of Hope, Growth and Lifesaving Impact

The year 2024 was a period of growth, collaboration and impact for The One New Heart Tanzania. Together with our amazing partners, donors and team, we have taken steps to provide lifesaving heart treatments for children across Tanzania. Here is a summary of what we accomplished:

Milestones to Celebrate

1. We hosted Prof. William Novick, the founder of Global Cardiac Alliance USA, for the first time in Tanzania. Since 1993, Prof. Novick has helped over 10,000 children and established heart surgery programs in 27 countries, including Ukraine, Rwanda and Iraq. His visit to Tanzania paved the way for affordable children’s heart programs.
2. Two major missions in Mbeya and Dodoma resulted in 13 free heart surgeries and 289 free heart screenings.
3. These missions saved lives, including Musa, a child who overcame a life-threatening condition, and laid the foundation for sustainable local programs.
4. We founded One New Heart Foundation USA and One Heart Travel Limited, innovative ventures to raise resources and expand our impact.
5. Collaborations with global partners like Mission Bambini, Global Cardiac Alliance and others are helping us strengthen local capacity and reach more children.

The Impact in Numbers

1. Over 289 children received free heart screenings.
2. 13 lifesaving heart surgeries were performed.
3. 10 children sponsored for heart medications.

Overcoming Challenges From funding constraints to limited local capacity, we faced challenges in delivering timely care. Yet, we remain committed to tackling these issues by training more local specialists, raising awareness about congenital heart defects, raising more resources and expanding access to screenings and treatments.

Looking Ahead to 2025

In 2025, we aim to:

1. Train more local experts.
2. Screen 1,000+ children and increase the number of surgeries through Mega Heart Mission.
3. Conduct nationwide heart health education campaigns.
4. Secure sustainable funding.
5. Present our work on the global stage.
