Each year in Tanzania, around 17,000 babies are born with congenital heart defects, a leading cause of early childhood death. Subclinical rheumatic heart disease affects 2.1-3% of school-aged children and often goes undetected. In adults, over 1 million live with rheumatic heart disease. Many pregnant mothers also face serious health risks without proper heart screening.

The One New Heart Tanzania (TONHT) provides life-saving heart care for children, adults and expectant mothers through a holistic approach that includes education, early detection, life-saving surgeries, post-operative care and emotional support.
We also build capacity for local healthcare workers, conduct research and advocate for the rights of heart patients, building long-term impact and supporting global health goals.

We secure funding through corporate social responsibility (CSR) partnerships and operate One Heart Travel Limited, a social enterprise that directs 50% of its profits to heart surgeries.

We are a full member of the World Heart Federation (WHF) and an Affiliate Member of the Global Heart Hub.
