Daniel Maji was born in the Mahenge District of the Morogoro region on 26th April 2017. He was born healthy, but in November 2020, at around 3 years old, he began to suffer from pneumonia. He was taken to Mahenge District Hospital and later referred to St. Francis Referral Hospital in Ifakara, where he was diagnosed with a hole in his heart.

While at Ifakara Hospital, Daniel and his father, Mr. Rayson, learned about a pediatric cardiac treatment camp at Benjamin Mkapa Hospital in Dodoma, scheduled for March 2021. They attended the camp, and after diagnosis, Daniel was advised not to undergo surgery at that time, but to await the surgical mission scheduled for July 2021.

On 12th July 2021, they arrived at Benjamin Mkapa Hospital in Dodoma, and Daniel underwent surgery on 13th July 2021.
