We are thrilled to share that our recent pediatric cardiac screening outreach program in Tanzania was a great success! Thanks to the collaborative efforts of The One New Heart Tanzania and For Hearts and Souls from the United States of America, we were able to reach a total of 249 children in need of cardiac care services. 171 children were screened at St. Francis Referral Hospital Ifakara and 78 children were screened at Benjamin Mkapa Hospital Dodoma.
The results showed that 30 children were good candidates for open-heart surgeries and cardiac catheterization procedures, however, for the rest of the children with complex congenital heart defects, surgery isn’t an option, and we have committed to providing them with palliative care.
This mission marked a significant milestone for our organization, having now screened a total of 790 children since our first mission held in March 2021.
We believe that every child deserves a healthy heart, and we are committed to making that a reality for as many children as possible. We are grateful to our donors for their support and contributions towards our mission, which has helped us to achieve this incredible feat. Your generosity has allowed us to continue providing hope and healing to children with congenital heart defects in Tanzania.
Our team traveled far and wide to look for needy children and help them access what they could not access. The journey from Dodoma to Ifakara took us almost 8 hours and 45 minutes by private car, covering a distance of 487.2 km.
We are committed to reaching as many children as possible, regardless of how far they are located. Thank you for your continued support!
